5 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied   March 7, 2010
Paul F Bliss
I bought this for one of my daughters as backup when her desktop was trashed by malware. I had reservations because other reviewers complained about the touchpad. I have always had a personality clash with touchpads, but decided to buy it anyway. Sure enough, the touchpad is very frustrating under Windows XP, so I bought a USB mouse, which works well.

I have used Linux for the last several years, so decided to do a dual-boot install of Ubuntu, using a pre-release copy of Ubuntu 10.4 (Lucid) from a pen drive. The installation went smoothly, and surprise! surprise! the touchpad works very well under Linux. Because Linux can read/write Windows files, it can be used to repair a trashed Windows.

I rebooted Windows to make sure that it would come up OK (it did) and discovered that if I use my little finger, the touch pad is usable, though still frustrating. Maybe practice will make things better.

The machine is faster than I expected it to be, and the screen is surprisingly easy to read. Really enjoy using it.

5 out of 5 stars Nice useful netbook   March 3, 2010

I'm what you might call a post-computer-era user. I began using computers when you had to build your own, and was working in a computer store when IBM introduced the PC thirty years ago. I've had many computers, from tabletops to desktops to laptops and handhelds. I'm pretty much worn out on computers; I just want one that doesn't weigh a ton, that boots up relatively fast, and that has enough memory and storage for me to do the few things I can't--or don't want to--do with my iTouch. Oh, and doesn't cost something like the gross national product of Peru.

My daughter bought one of these Samsung netbooks last year and I was taken by how suitable it was for everything I needed a computer to do. I wasn't quite sick of my XP desktop yet so I didn't do anything about it then. This January I decided to dump all the other computers and focus on a single one that does everything I want. I don't regret the decision one bit. Though not a blazer, it's fast enough for my needs. The battery life is fabulous; I charge it about twice a week and the rest of the time I just suspend it (it's all set up for that--Function Key/Escape does it), and I can come back a day later and find the battery has only lost a percent or two of charge. The screen size doesn't bother me; if I need it larger I just connect it to my TV. I use a wireless keyboard and mouse ($16.99 from Aldi's) when I need a full-size keyboard or find the built-in touchpad too annoying. With a nice-size hard drive, a gig of RAM, and a fairly fast front-side bus, this may be the last computer I need--at least until wearable computers are widely available...

2 out of 5 stars white screen problem   February 25, 2010

All
Be warned. This netbook has a problem. Suddenly white screen appears and it stays for a minute or so. It happens sporadicly. If you want to look for further details of this problem type in "white screen problem with samsung NC10" and you will see many articles.
The netbook it self is good performer. But most people who own one think that its a hardware issue.

4 out of 5 stars Awesome....but!!   February 24, 2010
Falcao (St. Louis)
A Steller netbook. The only complaint I have is with the speakers. They provide good sound however their location means that you almost never hear the sound. Runs Windows XP without fault. Never gets too warm even if in use while charging. The BATTERY LIFE IS AMAZING. 10+ hours if you adjust the settings a little bit. With decent screen brightness and a better performance setting I average about 6.5 hours so still excellent. The keyboard is great but the thumbpad is on the tiny side so be prepared to grab a mini mouse. Also the pad can be a bit touch at times; I've found that the zoom function the thumbpad has tends to be especially touchy. One second you're typing an email and you just touch the pad and the screen zooms in and out. Kinda funny after you get used to it. Just have to memorize where the zoom function on your browser is so you can re-adjust as trying to use the zoom function on purpose is a bit annoying. If I had to buy a netbook all over again I would've bought the same model. Samsung has released newer models, but this is still the best netbook money can buy if you can find one new.

5 out of 5 stars Pleased as punch!   February 24, 2010

I'll be brief. This notebook is all it is advertised to be. While it is slower than my 6GB desk top, It is lighter and infinitely packable.
